Session Summary: This session is a 3-hour workshop for all providers. The first 30 minutes is a presentation explaining the approaches, traits, influence and various leadership frameworks, including inclusive, transformational, adaptive and leadership theories applicable to our setting. The second part (1.5 hours) will involve small group discussions, skill practice, reflective learning. Case studies will be utilized for analysis and discussion regarding their impact on the patient, communication skills, feedback skills, approaches to understanding leadership styles. The third part (45 min) will host a panel discussion where participants inquire and share their experiences and address remaining educational or intellectual needs. Some current health problems that pose a barrier due to lack of communication, inefficient team dynamics, processes or environment barriers, and / or leadership and followership styles and relationships.

To assess and reflect on various approaches to understanding leadership in organizations including post-acute and long-term care settings. To evaluate various approaches including traits, skills, behavior and situational approaches in leadership and the impact of communication skills as a leader.
To develop a deeper understanding of the components of emotional intelligence and their impact as a leader. To develop an effective feedback process as a leader.
To recognize the elements of team dynamics and dysfunctional team when approaching concerns or scenarios which involve various sensitivities in PALTC. To Recognize one’s own attitude, personal assumptions, bias, barriers, and strengths as a leader.
