Session Summary: This session will describe the elements of a successful LTC nurse residency program and demonstrate its impact on the LTC nursing workforce. Topics will include the transition challenges faced in LTC by new graduate nurses and experienced nurses new to the setting, and how a structured residency program featuring professional and clinical education, preceptor training, and mentorship, can enhance nurse competence, confidence, and retention. The session will also highlight the integration of age-friendly care principles, interprofessional collaboration, and the role of academic-clinical partnerships in building a sustainable nursing workforce for LTC.
